C’vills Primary Benefactor Forgotten
The following resolution was passed by the Charlottesville City Council on May 28, 1942.
WHEREAS by reason of the many wisely chosen and generous gifts of Paul G. McIntire the citizens of the City of Charlottesville have enjoyed exceptional privileges in the fields of recreation, education and aesthetics; and
WHEREAS it is fitting that this body, as the representatives of the people of the City, should make public expression of their gratitude to Mr. McIntire, and by public proclamation call upon the citizens to recognize their indebtedness to him;
Now Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that the 28th day of May, the anniversary of the birth of Mr. McIntire, be and it is hereby designated as “McIntire Day”, to be observed throughout the City of Charlottesville as a special day for the expression of the profound feeling of good will and gratitude which Charlottesville and all of its citizens hold for Mr. McIntire.

Shortly after finding this Daniel Bluestone attended a City Council meeting and attempted to have them reinstate Paul McIntire Day. He was ignored by all but Holly Edwards.
